Chicago, 1 April 2022 – News has just reached SITE HQ in Chicago that SITE President, Kevin Edmunds, Vice President, AIC Hotel Group has been co-opted onto Ireland’s national basketball team following discussions between Basketball Ireland, the national governing body for the sport on the island of Ireland and the California based incentive travel professional. Edmunds, who is 6’ 7”, was spotted “shooting hoops” in Bushy Park Dublin by a representative of Basketball Ireland during a recent visit to Ireland’s capital and was subsequently invited to try out for the national team.

“I was in Ireland on a site visit for SITE Global Conference and had been advised that Bushy Park was a great place for pick-up games. Apparently, Justin Bieber showed up there during a recent visit. Someone from Basketball Ireland was watching me and liked what he saw. Next thing they were checking out my Irish ancestry and the rest, as they say, is history,”  said an excited Kevin Edmunds speaking from his home on the West Coat of the United States.

Paul Mockler, Head of Business Development at Fáilte Ireland, local host for SITE’s forthcoming global conference, added “We’re so thrilled to have played our part in uncovering new talent for Ireland’s national basketball team. We hoped to prove Ireland’s competitiveness as a destination for business events by bringing 400 global incentive travel professionals to Ireland for this conference but, in our wildest dreams, we never imagined we’d end up strengthening Ireland’s competitiveness in basketball. Kevin is an incredible athlete. My only regret is that I didn’t put a hurley in his hand when I first met him. He may have been playing senior hurling for Clare if I did”.

Edmunds is currently Vice President at AIC Hotel Group and spearheads sales and marketing efforts for luxury resort properties in the U.S., including Eden Roc Miami Beach, Nobu Hotel Miami Beach and Nobu Hotel Chicago, as well as for properties throughout Mexico and the Caribbean.
