Making “Sociable” connections via “Club Sandwich”
This week is National Volunteer Week in the US and Canada, making it an excellent time for our US-headquarted association to spotlight a star volunteer from the SITE Canada community. Our thanks to Darryl Nielsen for sharing how he found an unconventional way to make a difference through creative community initiatives he sparked. Says Darryl, “To date since June of 2020, over 1000 volunteers, donors and patrons have contributed to the making of over 200,000 sandwiches for the homeless and food insecure. If each sandwich was stacked on top of one another they would be reach twice as high as Canada’s tallest mountain.”

Meliá Hotels International : Road to Net Zero Events
Meliá Hotels International has introduced “Road to Net Zero Events,” a programme to measure, reduce and offset the carbon footprint of events held at our hotels. This initiative is aimed at measuring, reducing, and offsetting the carbon footprint of meetings. The program utilizes technology to calculate the carbon footprint at the quoting stage and the end of the event, offering event organizers insights to make environmentally responsible decisions aligned with the hotel group’s sustainability commitments.
This project is the result of technology developed in collaboration with Creast – Click & Shoot Green, a company that specializes in measuring, reducing and offsetting the environmental impact of events, which has been tested for the past year in #Europe at #MeliáBarcelonaSarriá and #MeliáBerlin.
This initiative was developed to find improvement opportunities that would help the company towards the goal of achieving carbon neutrality in events, responding to increasing demand from professionals in the sector.
