SITE Young Leaders proudly congratulates Akhona Fakudze, a member of the 2024 Mentoring Members program, for earning the 2024 Mentee of the Year honor.
Akhona is the founder and managing director of Melula Travel. His mentor in the 2024 Mentoring Members program was Pat Sandall. The Mentee of the Year was announced in October at the 2024 SITE Young Leaders Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.
As Mentee of the Year, Akhona will receive a complimentary registration to SITE Global Conference 2025, as well as support with airfare and lodging during the March 2025 event.
Says Akhona, about receiving this year's Mentee of the Year recognition:
"The mentorship program has been beneficial to my personal and professional growth. I could not have asked for a better Mentor as Pat is patient, and selfless — allowing me to express myself — and giving of her time. I further look forward to interaction with other mentees so as to expand my SITE network and to share knowledge and experiences."
Adds Pat, Akhona's mentor:
"I have mentored other young people within the MICE industry over the years, but Akhona has been the most joyful to work with. He is smart, keen, enthusiastic and willing to soak up as much information and knowledge as possible. He has been able to teach me about local industry challenges, business frustrations and demographic awareness — so that together, we have been able to walk forward through this partnership."
Jeorge Zepeda, a member of the SITE Young Leaders mentorship committee, also extended his congratulations to Akhona when presenting him with the award, writing "Your journey in the 2024 Mentorship program has been nothing short of astonishing. What you've accomplished is truly inspiring to our community and your peers alike. Your dedication and hard work have set a remarkable example for others, and we are excited to see how you will continue to shine in our industry. The impact you’ve made so far is just the beginning, and we look forward to supporting you as you embark on the next chapter of your career."
